There's only one more week to save 25% on Signs & Seasons!
Hello Friends,
As mentioned in last week's Classical Astronomy Update newsletter, we are offering a special Christmas sale on our Signs & Seasons astronomy curriculum!
Learn the Sky!
Update readers and site visitors always inquire how they can learn the constellations, identify the planets and understand why the seasons change. Well, this is exactly why we created Signs & Seasons! Though it is created as a curriculum for high schoolers, Signs & Seasons
is an astronomy resource for everyone of all ages who wishes to learn what's going on in the sky!
Textbooks and the popular media are filled with Big Ball Astronomy -- the same old weary "tour of the solar system," full of trite nuggets about the Sun and planets -- "big balls in space" -- how big they are, how far away they are, what are they made of, and so on.
While all this may be terribly fascinating to some, Signs & Seasons takes a very different approach, teaching things that can be seen with your own eyes. With Signs & Seasons
, you will learn about how to identify the visible planets in the night sky, how the Sun, Moon, and planets move through the constellations, and how this entire scheme changes over the span of the seasons. Learn the science and history of the Biblical purpose for why the LORD created the heavenly bodies:
... for signs and for seasons, and for days and years. (Genesis 1:14)
The best thing about Classical Astronomy is that observing the sky is something you can do outside any place, any time -- for free!
Special! All orders will receive a special free gift to help your family observe the sky!
We may never offer a deal like this again!

What are Other Authors Saying?
Jeannie Fulbright, Author of Apologia's Elementary Astronomy Curriculum
Signs & Seasons presents clear explanations in a captivating writing style that is peppered with interesting and little-known facts. I highly recommend this book as a follow-up to my Astronomy course, and one that will take the student further with their studies, giving them a near perfect understanding of the expanse of the heavens and God's purpose for astronomy.
Donald DeYoung, Author of "Astronomy and the Bible"
Author Jay Ryan presents a crystal-clear understanding of the night sky. The excellent, extensive graphics raise the bar for other astronomy books. The unique balance between modern and historical observations may well ignite a lifelong interest in stargazing.
Harvey and Laurie Bluedorn, Authors of "Teaching the Trivium"
Signs & Seasons is a systematic and classical approach to astronomy, with a Biblical foundation stone. Children will learn to love studying the night sky, and adults will appreciate being able to finally make sense of astronomy.
What are the Homeschool Magazines Saying?
The Old Schoolhouse
Our kids are getting the best possible astronomy class with Signs & Seasons. But something else just as wonderful has happened as a result: we as the parents are finally learning about this little-studied science on a deeper level for the first time. Don't skip astronomy, and don't just gloss over it, either. Avoid the dumbed-down curriculums. Signs & Seasons delivers.
Homeschool Enrichment
Signs & Seasons is the clearest, most concise book on astronomny that I've ever had the pleasure of reading. All other books on the subject have been confusing to me. But not this one. Signs & Seasons is a most excellent work. I give Jay a "standing O" for this quality work.

The author discusses how the night sky changes with the seasons, making for a wonderful foundation for stargazing. I can't tell you how satisfying it is to be outside and hear a small voice pipe up, "There's the Big Dipper! Look, it leads to the North Star! That way is north!" or "I found Cassiopeia!" or "There's Saturn!" (Yes, the author also discusses the planets and their motion.)

Our family received our long awaited copy of Signs and Seasons in the mail today, and I must take a moment to tell you what an instant treasure it is. I have not been able to put it down. It is very refreshing to have found such an amazing resource from both a classical and a biblical perspective.

A Personal Note from the Ryan Family
We self-published Signs & Seasons in March, 2007 after creating the Classical Astronomy Update free email newsletter since 2002. Our plan has been to develop a series of astronomy curricula and publications that give glory to God and help our generation rediscover the traditional apporach to astronomy, which has been neglected for about 150 years.
We are very grateful to everyone who already ordered Signs & Seasons, during this sale and before. Unfortunately, 2007 has been a very difficult year for our family. The investment of the book printing and web site development placed a great strain on our family finances. To complicate that, I lost my regular "day job" this summer and was out of work for several months.
Otherwise, we had a disappointing first year with Signs & Seasons. Our business expenses are a couple hundred dollars a month, well above what we have coming in. We hope to grow our business in '08 and still continue maintaining this website and offering a free newsletter. If you like what we're doing and if you'd like us to be around by this time next year, you can help by ordering your copy of Signs & Seasons
. Your family will gain the most benefit by learning to become skilled observers of the LORD's sky.
Thanks in advance for your kind support of our efforts. God bless you and your family this holiday season and in the new year.

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and
the stars, which thou hast ordained, what is man that thou art
mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
